It’s nice every once in a while to read a good, inspirational book. The Power of Broke is just that book for any struggling entrepreneur. Sometimes, you just need someone to grab you and say “Don’t give up! Even if you fail, you’ll come back stronger!” That’s what this book accomplishes within its chapters.

The first 2 chapters focus on Daymond and his entrepreneurial journey from growing up poor and underprivileged to building a fashion empire by selling shirts and hats out of his car. Each chapter after that focuses on other entrepreneurs, telling their stories and their tidbits of advice.
The ‘power of broke’ is the idea that when you have no other options but to succeed, you will do whatever it takes to make it happen, to get your business off the ground, to build something worthwhile. When you have the comfort of not really needing to be a successful entrepreneur, then it becomes a lot more difficult to force the sense of urgency upon yourself.
I’ve seen this a lot in my own life. Sure, there have been times where I’ve had financial struggles and dealt with periods of trying to figure out how to possibly wring a few more dollars out of SOMEWHERE, but for the most part, it has not been necessary for my business ventures to be successes, because I am not relying on them.
Now, that is about to change.
I have been working 2 jobs for the past 8 months, and just recently put in my notice for one of them which I expect to be phased out of in a month or two.
This has kicked me into high gear with my art and now a dressmaking business as well. These need to succeed because I’ve taken a portion of my comfort zone away. I’ve been trying for a long time to get an art business off the ground, but never really had strong enough motivation to “make it work at all costs”. It’s about creating opportunities, not waiting for them to fall in your lap. When you have no option but to succeed, you’ll do everything possible to make it happen!
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
